We made it over Sonora Pass just as it opened. It's hard to believe it was 105 degrees in Modesto, yet they're still skiing at Mammoth. I wonder how many skiers noticed that this odd duck was wearing motorcycle gear?

I headed out to Mendocino and the lost coast with Kim and his son, Justin. Pictured here is the Avenue of the Giants.

his town of Cazadero is in the hills above the northern California coast. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. In fact, the whole town is for sale.

Every first weekend in October since 1993, a sturdy group of motorcyclists gather at Blair's condo at Lake Tahoe. Each year finds a different activity. A highlight one year was watching the Nissan XTerra triathlon. The punishment gluttons start with an icy swim in Lake Tahoe, then change clothes for an extended uphill bicycle ride, then apparently conclude with a grueling foot race.
